Desert Leadership

Working together with the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML) we at McX have designed a unique desert training course for leaders in all walks of life. This has come in response to a pressing need for experienced expedition leaders who are able to operate effectively in harsh desert environments.

We will not only share over 20 years of experience in leading desert expeditions and but will also impart to you lessons of leadership applicable both to expedition and business environments.

To date McX are exclusive providers of the BAIML approved Desert Leadership course which provides you with the training and qualifications you need to begin your journey as a desert leader. Complete your training in one full course or over various weekends, available both in the UK training phases as well as in-country.

Topics covered include:

Thanks to our long and special relationship with the Bedouin of the south Sinai, we can offer the unique opportunity to learn about the ancient art of camel handling and husbandry. Handed down from father to son since camels were first domesticated in the time of Moses, 3,000 years ago in the Arabian Peninsula.

During the week you will learn all aspects of camel husbandry, loading and riding, under the watchful eye of the Bedouin, in the authentic environment of the Sinai desert. Finishing with a trek out into the desert looking after your own camel.

By the end of this one week course* you will have an understanding of:

  • Cultural and historic roles 
  • Welfare
  • Saddlery
  • Loading
  • Handling

Despite the recent deluge of adventurers out there with access to a couple of Go Pros there are surprisingly few videos that really tell a good story. Where the motto is 'less is more' learn while under expert supervision how to get the most of your camera and gain the skills to tell a great story and share your adventure.
